 Case
Histories
- Mr. & Mrs. S. are
both steadily employed. They have two sons, one of which had
a serious illness. Medical bills were extremely high and monthly
bills were mounting. This couple had never had to ask anyone
for help before and, in fact, had given to the Good Neighbor
Energy Fund in past years. The Fund was able
to provide the couple with much needed energy assistance to
keep the home warm during their son's recuperation.
- We received a telephone call from Joanne, a single mother with three children. She
had worked herself off the welfare rolls and was in the workforce
for a few months when the company with which she was employed
closed its doors. Thus, she was not eligible for unemployment
and not able to collect. She was in a desperate situation
and needed assistance to help prevent her electricity from
being shut off. The Rhode Island Good Neighbor Energy Fund
was able to be there for her and many others in similar situations.
- The Department of
Elderly Affairs contacted the Fund in regards to Mr. &
Mrs. H. who were both in their 80's and had been living in
the same apartment for 30+ years. Unfortunately, one of their
children who had been living in a group home for many years
came back into their lives and began to steal large amounts
of money from them. This went on for several months before
they had the courage to contact the Department for Elderly
Affairs. The child that had been doing the abusing was arrested,
however, during this period all their bills were not paid.
The Fund was able to pay their gas bill allowing them to once
again have hot water and a cooking source.
